Street Justice don't so much play heavy metal as they drag it kicking and screaming out of the LA gutter of 1986 and throw it straight into your face. After the dissolution of Bavarian outfit SAVAGE, former members Pawel Nemkovic and Axel Warrior clearly had unfinished business, and "Rules Are For Suckers" is the glorious, sleazy result of that grudge. What hits you first is the sheer confidence of it all: the riffing has evolved, the hooks are sharper, and the solos sound like they were tracked at three in the morning after one too many cheap beers. This is the sound of a band that knows exactly who its heroes are and isn't afraid to wear them on their studded sleeve.

The LA spirit of the 1980s is alive and dangerous here, and the comparisons write themselves: W.A.S.P., Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, early Van Halen. But where SAVAGE leaned into the classic, Street Justice crank up the sleaze factor considerably, landing somewhere closer to L.A. Guns at their late-80s peak, only meaner and more feral. The proof is in the cover choice: Tina Turner's "One of the Living" from Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome gets a properly heavy, grimy reworking that fits the record's wasteland mood like a studded glove. With Sergej Dukart of TYRAN behind the desk, the production adds a new level of clarity and depth, giving the band's "spatial heaviness" an almost larger-than-life dimension. This is a debut that arrives fully formed, hungry and unapologetically loud.
