Background information about 'Dungeon Descent'
There's something deeply, almost uncomfortably immersive about Dungeon Descent's latest offering Torpor. This isn't just another black metal record — it's a full-on descent into the claustrophobic, suffocating depths of the subterranean. From the very first note, the band drags you down into a world where light doesn't exist, where the weight of the earth above presses against your chest, and where the only thing keeping you company is the relentless, echoing pulse of riffs that seem to crawl out of the darkness itself.
What sets Torpor apart from the endless sea of cavern-dwelling black metal acts is the sheer conviction behind every track. Dungeon Descent don't just play at being grim — they embody it. The production is raw but never sloppy, perfectly calibrated to let the guitars breathe with that dank, tomb-like reverb while still giving the drums enough punch to rattle your bones. The vocals are less a performance and more a transmission from somewhere far below, hoarse and desperate, like someone who's been wandering the same lightless tunnels for centuries. There's a hypnotic quality to the songwriting here that rewards repeat listens — melodies surface and submerge like half-remembered nightmares, and just when you think you've found your footing, the floor gives way to something even darker.
