VIRGIN STEELE · Noble Savage (Re-Release) | DIGIPAK 2CD

Re-Release 2-CD Digi incl. 19 bonustracks

Background information about 'Noble Savage (Re-Release)'

There is a moment on "Noble Savage" where Virgin Steele stop being a very good heavy metal band and start becoming a great one. The title track alone is worth the price of admission: seven and a half minutes of swords-and-sorcery grandeur, built on a riff that swaggers like a warlord and a chorus that opens up like a cathedral door. David DeFeis has never sounded more possessed, spitting and crooning in the same breath, while the band behind him swings between barbarian stomp and genuine, almost baroque melody.

The rest of the record holds that line beautifully. "We Rule The Night" kicks things off with pure fist-in-the-air defiance, "Fight Tooth And Nail" is a razor-sharp slice of anthemic steel, and "The Angel Of Light" stretches out into something darker and more theatrical. What makes this re-release such a gift is the second disc: nineteen bonus tracks that pull back the curtain on how this beast was built. Rough mixes, live pre-production rehearsals, a Roman Sword remix of "Fight Tooth And Nail" — it is the sound of a band hammering ideas into shape in a sweaty rehearsal room, and for anyone who loves this era of American metal, that is pure treasure.
