Background information about 'You Are Silent'
When have always been the project you stumble across at 2 a.m. and then can't shake for weeks. With "You Are Silent", the Norwegian outfit around Lars Pedersen keeps doing what they do best: building strange, gorgeous little worlds out of tape loops, found sounds, haunted choirs and a sense of dread that never quite resolves. It's the kind of record that feels less composed than excavated — dusty organ drones, muffled percussion, snippets of voices that might be ghosts or might just be old radio static. Nothing here is loud, and that's exactly the point. The silence in the title isn't empty; it's heavy, deliberate, and full of things unsaid.
What makes this album so rewarding is how patiently it unfolds. Tracks drift into one another like weather systems, and just when you think you've got a handle on the mood, a melody surfaces — a lullaby, a hymn, something almost pretty — and pulls the whole thing somewhere else entirely. Pedersen has spent decades circling around hauntology, prog, folk and industrial textures, and here he sounds completely at ease in his own strange language. Play it on headphones, play it late, and let it do its slow work. This is music for people who like their atmosphere with a side of unease.
