Background information about 'The Unyielding Season'
Winterfylleth are among the most vital and uncompromising voices in British black metal — a band that has spent nearly two decades weaving the landscapes, mythology and ancient literature of these islands into something genuinely devastating. Founded in Manchester around 2006/2007 by Chris Noughton and Simon Lucas, they helped pioneer a distinctly UK-rooted strain of the genre, and nine albums deep they show absolutely no sign of slowing down. If anything, "The Unyielding Season" — their Napalm Records debut — finds them more focused and more furious than ever.
Where 2024's "The Imperious Horizon" circled a gathering threat on the horizon, this record is that threat made real. It is a raw, unflinching piece of social commentary: a rebellion against the relentless anxieties and fractures tearing modern life apart, a howl against unsustainable fear. "Echoes In The After" is a case in point — a track born directly from the senseless destruction of the Sycamore Gap tree at Hadrian's Wall, adapted from a Sir Philip Sidney poem of the 16th century. The album closes with a deeply felt cover of Paradise Lost's "Enchantment" from the landmark Draconian Times (1995), a nod to the towering British metal heritage the band has always carried with them.
