Background information about 'The Flight After The Fall'
Witch Ripper return with "The Flight After The Fall", and it lands like a slab of Seattle granite dropped from a great height. The trio have always been the kind of band that plays sludge with a progressive brain and a stoner heart, and here they sharpen every one of those instincts into something genuinely thrilling. The riffs are enormous, but they never just sit there — they twist, they climb, they collapse into feedback and then rebuild themselves somewhere stranger. There is a real sense of narrative across these five tracks, a rise-and-fall arc that gives the record the feel of a short, brutal epic rather than a simple collection of songs.
What makes this one special is the balance. For every moment of crushing low-end doom there is a passage of surprising melody, a vocal line that soars when you expected a growl, a guitar figure that suddenly opens into wide-open sky. The rhythm section is a machine built for tectonic movement, and the production keeps everything warm and heavy without smothering the detail. It is the sound of a band who know exactly how much they can get away with, and who choose to push it further anyway. Play it loud, play it front to back, and let the last movement take you somewhere.
