Background information about 'Black Soul Choir'
Wolves Like Us hail from Oslo, and "Black Soul Choir" is the sound of a band dragging sludge, hardcore and bleak Nordic melody into the same cramped room and letting them fight it out. The riffs are thick and tar-black, the rhythms lurch and swing where you least expect them, and the vocals sit somewhere between a bark and a confession. It is heavy, but it is never dumb heavy — there is real songwriting under all that grime, hooks buried in the wreckage that keep pulling you back for another pass.
What makes this record stick is the pacing. Wolves Like Us understand that a short, sharp shock can hit harder than a ten-minute dirge, so they drop brief instrumental breathers between the bruisers and let the longer cuts sprawl out and breathe. The result feels like a full journey rather than a collection of tracks — tension building, releasing, building again. It is the kind of album that rewards headphones as much as a loud stereo, and it lands squarely in the sweet spot between crushing and catchy.
