Background information about 'Ruines Humaines'
Amesoeurs were never a band that played it safe. Formed around the creative core of Neige, who later found fame with Alcest, this French outfit took the raw urgency of black metal and fused it with post-punk melancholy and shoegaze shimmer in ways that felt genuinely unhinged at the time. Ruines Humaines captures that restless spirit perfectly - it's not an album that sits still, and that's exactly what makes it so compelling. The record swings between frostbitten tremolo passages and clean, almost dreamlike interludes with a confidence that belies the band's relatively short existence. Tracks like the title song carry a desperate, urban loneliness, while others drift into spacious, atmospheric territory that feels like watching rain streak down a window in a forgotten industrial town.
What makes Ruines Humaines so special is how effortlessly it bridges worlds that rarely meet. The black metal elements are present but never overbearing - they serve the atmosphere rather than dominating it. Neige's vocals alternate between rasped desperation and fragile clean singing, and that duality gives the album its emotional depth. It's dark, yes, but there's a strange warmth buried in the murk, a sense that even in ruins there's something worth holding onto. For anyone who appreciates music that refuses easy categorization, this is essential listening.
