Background information about 'Fran Marder (Re-Release)'

Fran Marder is where the antikosmos first opened its gates. Recorded in 1995 and now remastered for vinyl from the original tapes by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony, this is Arckanum's debut full-length in its rawest, most ritualistic form — nine tracks of Swedish black metal built on tremolo storms, cavernous rasp and a cold, hypnotic pulse that never quite lets you go. Shamaatae, the sole architect behind the project, had already sharpened his blades on the Trulen demo a year earlier, and here he pushes that same vocabulary into the studio. The difference is staggering: Peter Tägtgren's Abyss studio gives the material a weight and clarity the demo tapes could only hint at, and suddenly every riff lands like a hammer on frostbitten stone.

What makes Fran Marder endure three decades on is not nostalgia but architecture. Shamaatae doesn't just write songs, he builds a world — the calligraphy, the drawings, the lyrics in ancient Swedish, the unmistakable cover art all belong to the same dark cosmology. Tracks like "Hvila pa tronan min" and "Svinna" carry the demo-era DNA forward while "Fran marder" and "Trulmælder" open new corridors entirely. Five of the nine pieces had already appeared on Trulen, but refined, reworked and delivered with a conviction that makes the earlier versions feel like sketches. This second pressing comes in a gatefold sleeve with UV-varnish, a hefty 20-page 12" booklet featuring part two of an in-depth Shamaatae interview, and an A2 poster tucked into every copy.
