Background information about 'Mercurion'
Gothenburg's Armory have been firing hyper-speed metal out of Sweden since 2012, and on "Mercurion" they finally pull off the record they'd been circling for years: a full-blown sci-fi concept album, told from the first riff to the last. It's their third full-length, and you can hear a band that has grown into its own mythology.
The story boards the starship Mercurion, named after the winged messenger of the gods, and the music rises to meet it. Everything here is bigger and more dramatic than before — the hooks bite harder, the solos explode out of the speakers, and the tempo never once apologizes for itself. What keeps it grounded is the production: dirty enough to feel like five people in a room, gleaming enough to let the melodies soar. Armory have always been fast; here they're also cinematic.
