Background information about 'Mercurion'
Gothenburg's Armory have been running on pure adrenaline since 2012, and "Mercurion" is the record they've been circling for years without quite daring to build. Two albums in — "World Peace... Cosmic War" and "The Search" — they finally went for the big one: a full-blown sci-fi concept album with a story that runs from the first second to the last. And it lands like a chrome-plated fist.
The premise is a voyage aboard the starship Mercurion, named for the winged messenger of the gods, and the Swedes let that idea push everything into overdrive. The hyper-speed metal is sharper and more dramatic than ever, riffs firing off like thrusters while the hooks stay ridiculously sticky and the solos explode out of nowhere. What really sells it is the production: dirty enough to feel like five humans in a room, gleaming enough that the melodies sparkle. It's a balancing act most bands botch, and Armory nail it.
