Aborted

Aborted stands among the most influential forces in modern extreme metal, continuously redefining the boundaries between death metal, grindcore, and technical brutalism since their formation in 1995. The Belgian band around mastermind Sven (also known as "Gurgloroth Sven") evolved from an originally goregrind-oriented formation into one of the most internationally influential death metal institutions of the 21st century.

Aborted's early years were marked by typical underground struggles and countless lineup changes. Only in 1998 the band managed to have a stable lineup for the groundbreaking demo "The Necrotorous Chronicles". The first record deal followed with Uxicon Records, who released the debut album "The Purity of Perversion" in 1999 – a raw but visionary work that laid the foundation for Aborted's characteristic blend of technical perfection and raw emotion.

After early cult releases like "Engineering the Dead" (2001) and the critically acclaimed "Goremageddon: The Saw and the Carnage Done" (2003), the band switched to Century Media Records, where they celebrated their label debut with "Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture" (2007). This partnership would last over a decade and help Aborted achieve international recognition.

"The Necrotic Manifesto" (2014) marked Aborted's first entry into international charts, followed by the even more successful "Retrogore" (2016), produced by Kristian Kohlmannslehner at Germany's Kohlekeller Studios. 2022 marked another milestone: After a "very long and solid partnership" with Century Media, the band switched to Nuclear Blast Records, one of the most prestigious extreme metal labels worldwide.

The international orientation is reflected in the current lineup, which unites musicians from Belgium, Iceland, and the United States. Despite over 30 lineup changes, Sven de Caluwé remained as the only founding member the driving force and vision behind Aborted, allowing the band to preserve their artistic integrity over nearly three decades.

Having carved a niche for themselves in the extreme metal realm, Aborted initially gained notoriety by offering up ruthlessly fast death-grind with groovy breakdowns on their early works, before meticulously crafting and introducing more technical elements on recent releases, firmly cementing their status as one of the most menacing and envelope-pushing metal acts of the modern era.
