Background information about 'The Ghost Of A Future Dead'

With "The Ghost Of A Future Dead", Swedish death metal legends At The Gates deliver their seventh studio album and a magnificent, emotionally turbocharged epitaph to frontman Tomas Lindberg, who tragically passed away in September 2025. After guitarist Anders Björler rejoined the band in 2022, reuniting the classic "Slaughter Of The Soul" lineup, the group entered Fascination Street Studios with producer Jens Bogren to record 12 tracks of blistering melodic death metal. Lindberg completed his vocal takes in January 2024, the day before entering hospital, pouring every ounce of his legendary intensity into what would become his final artistic statement.

From the raging fury of opener "The Fever Mask" through the dark, brooding "Det Oerhörda" and the monstrous post-punk tornado of "In Dark Distortion", the album draws from all eras of the band's storied career while twisting their formula into something fresh, ferocious and deeply moving. The title, changed from "The Dissonant Void" in spring 2024, reflects Lindberg's unflinching awareness of his situation - making this record resonate with a power that transcends mere music.
