Background information about 'Cryptic Aura'

Azure Emote have never been a band that plays it safe, and "Cryptic Aura" is the sound of a group gleefully tearing up the rulebook and tossing the scraps into a black hole. This fourth full-length is a wild, restless ride through the outer reaches of death metal, where riffs bend into impossible shapes, keyboards drift like cold nebulae and the whole thing threatens to float off into the void before some monstrous, ultra-heavy passage yanks you back down into a crushing event horizon. Every single track here carries its own strain of abstract insanity, yet they lock together beautifully through a shared atmosphere of unease, dread and defiant creativity.

The story behind it only makes the record richer. Vocalist and keyboard player Mike Hrubovcak founded the project back in 2003 in Philadelphia, wanting an outlet for personal negativity free of the genre fences that cage so much extreme music. A cult debut, a long hiatus, a resurrection with drummer Mike Heller, and now a line-up that includes bassist Kelly Conlon, whose credits include DEATH's "Symbolic", plus former ELUVEITIE vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Anna Murphy and violinist Pete Johansen. That range shows: the album is brutal at its core but endlessly curious around the edges, and it never once feels like a retread.
