Background information about 'The Apostasy'
There are albums that merely exist within a genre, and then there are records that define a moment in time. Behemoth's "The Apostasy" is the latter. Originally unleashed in 2007, this beast marked a turning point where the Polish titans fully shed their remaining black metal skin and emerged as the death metal colossus the world would come to fear and adore. From the opening salvo of “Rome 64 C.E.” to the crushing closer “Christgrinding Avenue,” this album is a masterclass in controlled chaos. Nergal’s riffs are razor-sharp, the rhythm section hits like a sledgehammer, and the atmosphere is drenched in occult grandeur.
What makes "The Apostasy" truly special is its willingness to experiment within the confines of extremity. Tracks like “Inner Sanctum” featuring the late, great Warrel Dane (Nevermore, Sanctuary) add an unexpected layer of melodic tragedy, while “Slaying The Prophets Ov Isa” remains one of the most devastatingly catchy songs in their entire catalog. This isn’t just brutality for brutality’s sake – it’s intelligent, calculated, and utterly devastating. Unavailable on vinyl for over a decade, this reissue is a long-overdue resurrection. Crank it up and feel the blasphemy.
