Background information about 'The Bride Screamed Murder'

Melvins have been the great unclassifiable constant of heavy music for decades, and The Bride Screamed Murder is one of those records where King Buzzo and Dale Crover simply refuse to do anything predictable. From the opening lurch of "The Water Glass" you know you're in for something that lurches, grinds, and occasionally erupts into pure, gleeful chaos. The riffs here are fat and nasty, the kind of sludge-soaked stomp that only this band can make sound both menacing and oddly catchy. There's a weird, almost vaudevillian streak running through the whole thing, and that's exactly what makes it so addictive.

The second half is where things get genuinely unhinged. Their cover of "My Generation" is the kind of move only Melvins would attempt, and it somehow works, twisted into something dark and heavy while keeping that sneering core intact. "Hospital Up" and "Inhumanity And Death" pile on the weight, with Crover's drumming doing that thing where it sounds like the whole kit is about to collapse under its own power. This is a band that has never stopped experimenting, and The Bride Screamed Murder captures them at their most gleefully destructive, a record that's equal parts sludge, prog, and pure punk attitude.
