Background information about 'Born Again'
"Born Again" marks one of the most controversial and fascinating chapters in Black Sabbath's legendary career. Released in 1983, this album represents the band's bold experiment with former Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan taking over vocal duties from Ozzy Osbourne. The result is a raw, unpolished beast that divides fans to this day but stands as a testament to Sabbath's willingness to push boundaries. Opening with the crushing "Trashed" and featuring the epic title track "Born Again", the album showcases a heavier, more aggressive sound that feels almost proto-thrash at times.
What makes this release particularly intriguing is how Gillan's distinctive wail transforms classic Sabbath riffage into something entirely different yet unmistakably heavy. Tracks like "Zero The Hero" and "Disturbing The Priest" demonstrate the band's continued mastery of dark, heavy grooves while "Digital Bitch" shows them embracing a more modern edge. Despite mixed critical reception upon release, "Born Again" has gained cult status among metal enthusiasts who appreciate its uncompromising heaviness and experimental spirit.
