Background information about 'Forbidden (2024 Tony Iommi Remix LP)'
"Forbidden" stands as Black Sabbath's eighteenth studio album and their final release with vocalist Tony Martin, originally unleashed in 1995. This 2024 Tony Iommi remix breathes new life into what many consider the band's most underrated effort from their later era. The album showcases a heavier, more aggressive sound than its predecessor "Cross Purposes", with Tony Iommi's guitar work taking center stage alongside Martin's powerful vocal delivery. Tracks like "Illusion of Power" and "Get a Grip" demonstrate the band's ability to craft memorable hooks while maintaining their signature dark atmosphere.
The remix treatment by Iommi himself adds clarity and punch to the original recordings, allowing the intricate guitar layers and rhythm section to shine through with modern production values. Songs such as "Shaking off the Chains" and the epic "Kiss of Death" benefit tremendously from this sonic upgrade, revealing nuances that were previously buried in the mix. This reissue serves as a testament to the enduring quality of Black Sabbath's songwriting during a period often overlooked by casual fans, proving that even in their later incarnation, the godfathers of heavy metal still had plenty of fire left in the tank.
For fans of: Black Sabbath, Tony Martin-era Sabbath, Dio, Rainbow and Deep Purple
