Demon Head have never been a band to walk the beaten path, and with Viscera they plunge deeper into their own shadowy cosmos than ever before. This is an album that feels like a fever dream in a candlelit chamber — part gothic rock grandeur, part doom-laden introspection, and utterly spellbinding from the first note. There's a warmth to the darkness here, a velvety richness that wraps around you like smoke from a dying fire.

The Copenhagen quintet have always operated in the liminal space between heavy rock and something far more esoteric, but on Viscera they've refined their alchemy to near perfection. The guitars shimmer and snarl in equal measure, while the rhythm section lays down grooves that feel almost ritualistic — hypnotic basslines and understated yet thunderous drums that pull you deeper into the trance. And then there's that voice: Marcus Ferreira Larsen sings with a crooning, almost crooning baritone that channels the spectres of classic dark rock while remaining entirely his own creature. Tracks like The Feline Smile slink with a dangerous elegance, while In Adamantine Chains unfolds like a slow-burning incantation — nine minutes of pure, mesmerizing descent. The production is lush without being over-polished, letting the organic interplay between the musicians breathe in a way that feels both vintage and startlingly present.

What makes Viscera such a triumph is its refusal to be pinned down. One moment you're in the grip of a driving, almost anthemic rock number, the next you're lost in a sprawling, organ-drenched meditation that feels like it was unearthed from some forgotten 1970s prog vault. It's music for the witching hour, for the space between waking and dreaming. There's a literary quality to the lyrics too — esoteric, poetic, steeped in alchemical imagery and existential yearning — that rewards repeated, close listening. This isn't background music; it demands your full attention and gives back tenfold.
