Background information about '13'
After 35 years, the godfathers of heavy metal return with their first studio album featuring the classic lineup of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler. "13" marks a triumphant comeback that proves these Birmingham legends haven't lost an ounce of their crushing power. The album opens with the epic "End Of The Beginning", an eight-minute journey that immediately establishes the band's intent to reclaim their throne, while "God Is Dead?" delivers the kind of earth-shaking riffs that made Sabbath the template for every metal band that followed.
Producer Rick Rubin's stripped-down approach allows the band's raw chemistry to shine through, particularly on tracks like "Loner" and the haunting "Damaged Soul". Ozzy's vocals retain that distinctive wail that defined a generation, while Iommi's guitar work remains as menacing and hypnotic as ever. The album's eight tracks feel both familiar and fresh, capturing the essence of what made early Sabbath albums so revolutionary while addressing modern themes of mortality and spirituality.
For fans of: Dio, Electric Wizard, Sleep, and Saint Vitus
