Background information about 'Fallen Angel of Doom'
Some records don't just push a genre forward, they torch the ground behind it. "Fallen Angel of Doom", the 1990 debut from Blasphemy, is one of those records. Recorded on a shoestring budget with all the polish of a demolition site, it sounds like a war declaration: death, speed and grind colliding with the raw, sulfurous evil of Sarcófago, Sodom and Bathory. Nothing here is polite, nothing is clean, and that is exactly the point.
What still hits hardest three decades on is the sheer physical weight of it. The riffs don't groove so much as grind, the drums feel like falling rubble, and the vocals come howling out of some basement that shouldn't exist. Blasphemy turned chaos into a blueprint, and countless bands have been chasing this sound ever since without ever quite catching it. Menacing in sound and in appearance, this album remains unsurpassed.
This reissue stays faithful to the original pressing and finally restores the lyrics to "Hording of Evil Vengeance", "Darkness Prevails" and "The Desolate Ones" that were missing first time around. Pressed on ruby red vinyl and bundled with an A2 poster and insert, it's the version to own. Essential, ugly, glorious.
