Bone Abduction return with "Afarensis", an absolute ripper of an EP that grabs you by the throat from the very first note and doesn't let go until the needle lifts. This is death metal with a brain - technical, progressive, and crushingly heavy all at once. The riffs spiral into labyrinthine patterns that recall the best of Gorguts and Ulcerate, yet there's a raw, punk-infused energy that keeps things from getting too clinical. The rhythm section is absolutely punishing, with blast beats that hit like a sledgehammer and groove sections that lock in with devastating precision.
The production on "Afarensis" is a perfect middle ground between raw and polished - every instrument cuts through the mix with clarity, but there's enough grit to remind you this is still underground death metal at its core. The vocals are a guttural roar that sits perfectly in the mix, neither overpowering the instruments nor getting lost in the chaos. Each track on this EP feels like a journey through some ancient, primordial landscape - fitting, given the title's nod to our early hominid ancestors. This is intelligent, aggressive death metal that rewards repeated listens.
