Originally released in 2005 and now gloriously remastered for 2017, this is the Air Raid Siren of Heavy Metal doing what he does best: blending theatrical storytelling with riff-driven, no-nonsense metal.

From the ominous orchestral swell of "Mars Within (Intro)" to the skull-cracking opener "Abduction", Dickinson wastes no time. Working once again with guitarist/producer Roy Z, the album feels like a cosmic horror story set to music — alien abductions, devilish rides, and existential dread wrapped in some of the catchiest hooks this side of Maiden. "Kill Devil Hill" is a monster of a track, while "Navigate the Seas of the Sun" shows a more reflective, almost melancholic side of Bruce's songwriting. The title track "A Tyranny of Souls" closes the album with a seven-minute epic that builds and crashes like a tidal wave.

This is not a "singer from a famous band does a side project" kind of album. This is a man who genuinely loves heavy metal, flexing every muscle he's got. The 2017 remaster breathes new life into the already stellar production — everything sounds punchier, clearer, and more urgent. It's Dickinson at his most unhinged, creative, and powerful.
