CANNIBAL CORPSE · The Wretched Spawn | PICTURE DISC LP

Picture disc vinyl in gatefold cover.

Background information about 'The Wretched Spawn'

There are records that hit you, and then there are records that flat-out cave your skull in. Cannibal Corpse have been doing the latter for decades, and The Wretched Spawn — their ninth studio album, first unleashed back in 2004 — is a masterclass in why they remain the undisputed kings of American death metal.

From the second the needle drops on "Severed Head Stoning," there is zero mercy. George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher's guttural roar is in absolutely devastating form, while Alex Webster's bass lines rumble like a freight train through a collapsing morgue. The twin-guitar assault of Jack Owen and Pat O'Brien is surgical in its precision yet utterly feral in execution. Tracks like "Decency Defied" and "Frantic Disembowelment" don't just play — they pummel, with Paul Mazurkiewicz's blastbeats ricocheting off every surface of the room. This is technical brutality done right: complex enough to reward repeat listens, ugly enough to scare your neighbors.

What makes The Wretched Spawn so essential is its sheer consistency. There's no filler, no lull, no moment to catch your breath. "Cyanide Assassin" grooves with a sickening menace, "Festering in the Crypt" crawls and churns, and by the time "They Deserve to Die" closes things out, you're left wondering how a band can sound this relentless and this tight at the same time. The production is thick, warm, and gloriously heavy — everything a death metal record should be.

Now pressed as a picture disc, this edition brings the album's grotesque artwork to life in full color, spinning right on your turntable. It's a must-own for collectors and a brutal introduction for anyone brave enough to step into the deep end.
