Carnal Tomb deliver "Osseous Sarcophagus", a crushing compilation that pulls together material from three different releases into one bone-rattling package. The first three tracks were recorded during the Covid-19 pandemic, capturing that raw, isolated energy that only comes from musicians locked away with nothing but their instruments and their darkest thoughts. The remaining tracks hark back to the band's first demo from 2014, but this time they've been re-recorded with the full line-up and proper equipment that simply wasn't available back then. The difference is night and day, and longtime fans will hear these early compositions reborn with newfound weight and clarity.
The six tracks on display here — from the title track "Osseous Sarcophagus" through "Festering Presence", "Dust", "Vast Crypts", "Dormant Cadavers" and closing with "Burial Rites" — showcase a band firmly rooted in old-school death metal tradition. It's filthy, cavernous and unapologetically heavy, the kind of music that sounds like it was recorded in a tomb and mixed with grave dust. Carnal Tomb understand that death metal should feel oppressive and suffocating, and they nail that atmosphere from the first riff to the last guttural roar.
