Background information about 'Ellengæst'
"Ellengæst," the latest offering by the enigmatic ensemble Crippled Black Phoenix, is a haunting exploration into the realms of psychedelic rock, post-rock, and prog rock. Released in October 2020 under the auspices of Season of Mist, this album stands as a testament to the band's ability to weave intricate musical tapestries that transcend conventional boundaries. The album's title is derived from an archaic term for a spectral guest, a fitting metaphor for the ethereal ambiance that pervades each track.
The album features seven captivating tracks that include two evocative covers from artists like Vic Chesnutt and Bauhaus. Throughout "Ellengæst," Crippled Black Phoenix melds haunting melodies with profound lyrical themes, often drawing upon existential musings and introspective narratives. With contributions from an array of notable collaborators and the band's signature atmospheric soundscapes, "Ellengæst" invites listeners into a world where time seems to halt and emotions are laid bare.
