Background information about 'Sunbather (B-Stock)'
Deafheaven's sophomore masterpiece "Sunbather" stands as one of the most groundbreaking albums in modern extreme music, seamlessly weaving together the brutality of black metal with the ethereal beauty of shoegaze and post-rock. The San Francisco quintet crafted something truly transcendent here - seven tracks that flow like a continuous emotional journey, from the crushing opener "Dream House" to the epic 11-minute closer "The Pecan Tree". The album's pink cover art perfectly captures its essence: beautiful, confrontational, and utterly uncompromising in its vision.
What makes "Sunbather" so special is how George Clarke's tortured shrieks dance over Kerry McCoy's cascading guitar melodies, creating moments of pure catharsis that feel both devastating and uplifting. The 14-minute centerpiece "Vertigo" showcases the band's ability to build tension and release it in waves of blissful noise, while quieter interludes like "Please Remember" provide breathing space between the storms. This isn't just black metal - it's emotional hardcore wrapped in a wall of gorgeous distortion that redefined what heavy music could be.
