DevilDriver have never been a band to tiptoe around the edges, and "Strike and Kill" lands like a boot to the chest from the very first riff. Dez Fafara and company have spent two decades sharpening their groove-laden melodic death metal into something leaner, meaner, and more surgical, and this record feels like the payoff. The guitars bite hard, the rhythm section swings with a menacing swagger, and Fafara's bark still carries that unmistakable venom that made him one of metal's most recognisable voices. There is a real sense of momentum here, songs that lock into a groove and refuse to let go.
