Background information about 'Strike and Kill'

DevilDriver have never been a band to tiptoe around the edges, and "Strike and Kill" lands like a boot to the chest from the very first riff. Dez Fafara and company have spent two decades sharpening their groove-laden melodic death metal into something leaner, meaner, and more surgical, and this record feels like the payoff. The guitars bite hard, the rhythm section swings with a menacing swagger, and Fafara's bark still carries that unmistakable venom that made him one of metal's most recognisable voices. There is a real sense of momentum here, songs that lock into a groove and refuse to let go.

What sets this one apart is the balance. For every skull-rattling blast there is a hook buried just deep enough to sink in on the second spin, and the band's knack for melody never undercuts the aggression, it sharpens it. Tracks like the title cut and the brooding closer show a group that knows exactly what it is doing, confident enough to slow the tempo when the mood demands it and then floor it again without warning. It is heavy, it is tight, and it sounds like a band having a genuinely great time being loud. If you have been waiting for a modern groove metal record with teeth and tunes in equal measure, this is the one to grab.
