Doom! Noo Yelbek have never been a band to play it safe, and with "Yelbek" they push their kaleidoscopic psychedelic rock into gloriously uncharted territory. From the very first notes of the opener, there is a sense of wide-open, sun-drenched space, the kind of record that feels like it was recorded in a room full of vintage amps, tape hiss and tangled cables. The guitars shimmer and swirl, the rhythm section locks into a hypnotic groove, and before you know it you are drifting somewhere between desert haze and late-night basement jam.
What makes this album so thrilling is the way it refuses to sit still. Tracks like "Plus de Plantes" and "Snakes Now Dance" stretch out into long, exploratory passages where melodies bloom and dissolve, while the two-part "Balkon" sequence offers a more introspective, almost meditative counterpoint. There is a looseness and warmth to the playing that feels completely organic, never forced. It is the sound of a band trusting their instincts and inviting you along for the ride.
