Background information about 'Catarsi'
There are albums that simply sound great, and then there are those that grab you by the collar and refuse to let go. DUIR's Catarsi is emphatically the latter. With their upcoming full-length, set for release via AOP Records in 2026, this Italian atmospheric black metal outfit delivers what might just be their most ambitious statement yet.
Set against the harrowing backdrop of the First World War, Catarsi follows a young soldier torn between pride, despair, and the creeping pull of oblivion. It's a concept album that doesn't just tell a story — it makes you feel the mud, the cold, the hopelessness, and the fleeting moments of beauty. DUIR masterfully weaves atmospheric black metal with evocative folk elements, creating soundscapes that are as haunting as they are beautiful. The melodies hit hard, the blast beats crush, and the quieter, acoustic passages hit you right in the gut. A guest vocal by L.G. of Ellende adds an extra layer of raw emotion, while the mix and master by P.G. of Groza at Ad Nauseam Sounds ensures every note cuts deep.
This is catharsis in musical form — history turned into emotion, memory turned into sound. If you're into atmospheric black metal that actually takes you somewhere, Catarsi is essential listening.
