Background information about 'Nordland II'
Bathory's "Nordland II" stands as a monumental pillar in the Viking metal genre. Released originally in 2003, this album is a continuation of the epic saga that began with its predecessor, "Nordland I." Under the guiding hand of Quorthon, the mastermind behind Bathory, "Nordland II" weaves a tapestry of mythic landscapes and Norse god reverence through its richly layered compositions. The album opens with "Fanfare," setting an ominous yet grandiose tone that signals the listener's journey into a world steeped in ancient lore.
The tracks follow suit with compelling narratives and atmospheric melodies that encapsulate the harsh beauty of Nordic nature. Songs like "Blooded Shore" and "Vinland" evoke imagery of windswept coasts and fearless seafarers. The intricate guitar work and choral elements found throughout reflect Quorthon's genius in crafting soundscapes that are both grandiose and hauntingly intimate. The album culminates with "The Wheel Of Sun," an expansive piece offering nearly thirteen minutes of soaring riffs and introspective passages.
