More about 'Etemen Ænka'

DVNE is a five-piece progressive rock/metal band from Edinburgh, Scotland. Founded in 2013, the band was then called Dune in reference to Frank Herbert's masterpiece of the same name; a statement of the band's mutual obsession for sci-fi and fantasy of all forms, the inspiration of which has continued to influence their music to this day."Etemen Ænka" is where DVNE shed the obvious influences behind their sound and solidified their own take on progressive post-metal.The album is big, in all senses of the word. The riffs tower, the lengthy run times feel almost impossibly crammed with energy and creativity leaks from every corner. Each track is an exercise in building towards billowing crescendos in a wide variety of ways. Fluid transitions pull the music gradually from gentle mystery to stormy peak, until it all coalesces into a rolling, thundering hurricane in which every part of the band weaves through the others to create an utterly inescapable tidal wave of riffs that will pull you under and drown you."Etemen Ænka" is well over an hour long, and simply put, we need not have worried. This sophomore release does its very best to take the listener on that most cliched of things: a journey. It's a fitting thing to say here though, because the contrasts within the music are so pronounced, and the influences are so varied, that Dvne really do take you on a journey.Ultimately, this feels like a launch pad set to spring DVNE into the upper echelons of post-progressive music. For fans of:
Neurosis, Cult of Luna, Baroness and Gojira
