Background information about 'Black Magic Rituals & Perversions Vol. 1'
Electric Wizard's "Black Magic Rituals and Perversions Vol. 1" is a testament to the band's enduring commitment to the raw and visceral essence of doom metal. Recorded during the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic, this album captures the band at a time when uncertainty loomed over their ability to perform live again. The sessions took place in their secluded jam room in the English Westcountry, where they recorded using a 16-track tape machine. This method aimed to encapsulate their pure, unfiltered sound that has garnered them a cult following over the years.
The album is not just an exercise in nostalgia but a deliberate attempt to preserve the energy and ferocity from their live performances across continents before the world came to a standstill. The tracks are heavy, laden with dark themes and dense riffs that resonate with long-time fans and newcomers alike. It's an album that serves both as a historical document and an artistic statement, reaffirming Electric Wizard's place as pioneers of doom metal.
