Background information about 'Judgement Of The Dead'
Originally recorded back in 1982 during the height of the NWOBHM movement, Pagan Altar's debut album "Judgement of the Dead" stands as one of the most revered and influential releases in the heavy/doom metal underground. This legendary British band crafted something truly special - a collection of dark, mystical compositions that center around magic, witchcraft, and occult themes. The album's raw yet atmospheric production perfectly captures the band's unique blend of heavy metal power and doom-laden atmosphere, creating an otherworldly listening experience that has captivated metal fans for over four decades.
What makes this record so extraordinary is its pure, unfiltered approach to heavy metal songwriting. The guitar work is both crushing and melodic, while the vocals carry an almost shamanic quality that draws listeners into the band's mystical world. The album's influence on the heavy/doom metal scene cannot be overstated - countless bands have cited Pagan Altar as a major inspiration, and "Judgement of the Dead" continues to be discovered by new generations of metalheads who are immediately struck by its timeless appeal and magical atmosphere.
