Background information about 'Songs in Crimson'

Forty-odd years into a career that helped forge an entire genre, Satan are not here to politely reminisce. "Songs in Crimson" finds the Newcastle veterans sounding leaner, sharper and hungrier than most bands half their age, trading in the kind of riff-driven heavy metal that built the NWOBHM and never once needed a nostalgia crutch to stand tall. The twin-guitar attack still cuts like a blade, the rhythms still swing with that unmistakable early-80s swagger, and the songwriting carries a confidence that only comes from decades of knowing exactly what you are.

What hits hardest is the range. "Frantic Zero" opens the record at full sprint, all galloping drums and razor-wire leads, before "Era (The Day Will Come)" stretches out into something grander and more anthemic. "Whore of Babylon" and "Sacramental Rites" lean into the band's darker, more theatrical instincts, while "Turn the Tide" and "Captives" show off a melodic sensibility that keeps the hooks lodged firmly in your skull. By the time "Truth Bullet" and the closing "Deadly Crimson" arrive, you are reminded that these guys never lost the plot, they simply kept sharpening it.

Produced with a warm, punchy clarity that lets every instrument breathe, this is heavy metal played with conviction rather than calculation. No gimmicks, no filler, just ten tracks of steel-plated craft from a band who clearly still love what they do. If you have been sleeping on Satan since the glory days, this is your wake-up call.
