Background information about 'Songs in Crimson'
SATAN are back, and they mean business. Songs in Crimson is the kind of record that grabs you by the throat from the first riff and doesn't let go until the final chord rings out. The Newcastle metallers have been on a remarkable hot streak since their resurrection, and this 2025 offering cements their status as elder statesmen who still pack a vicious punch.
What strikes you immediately is how effortlessly the band blends their classic NWOBHM DNA with a modern, razor-sharp production. Tracks like “Frantic Zero” and “Whore of Babylon” showcase that signature dual-guitar attack – melodic, menacing, and absolutely lethal. Vocalist Brian Ross sounds possessed, his voice soaring over galloping rhythms with the fire of a man half his age. The title is no gimmick either; there’s a crimson thread of darkness running through every song, from the crushing “Martyrdom” to the anthemic “Turn the Tide.”
This is traditional heavy metal played with punk rock urgency and progressive songwriting chops. Songs in Crimson doesn’t reinvent the wheel — it sharpens it into a weapon.
