For a soundtrack to the apocalypse, there is no better band than Electric Wizard. When the COVID-19 pandemic took hold in 2020 and movement was restricted to the immediate surroundings, the legendary British doom band wondered if they would ever play live again. Out in the wilderness of England's Westcountry, where singer/guitarist Jus Oborn and guitarist Liz Buckingham reside, the band retreated to their cryptic jam room to create a live album like no other. Without an audience or online presence, they recorded themselves using a 16-track tape machine to capture their essence, malice, and ferocity.

"At that point, we had already played gigs for two years straight, thrice in America, Japan, and Australia, and by the end of it we were sounding pretty tight," says Jus. "When the pandemic hit, we thought: 'To hell with it, maybe we will never play again.' So we went into the jam room and played the songs to capture on tape how we sounded back then." The result, 'Black Magic Rituals and Perversions Vol. 1', is as raw and heavy as one would expect from The Wizard.
