Background information about 'Sovereigns'
Enthroned returns with "Sovereigns", a commanding statement that showcases the Belgian black metal veterans at their most refined and devastating. The album weaves together atmospheric passages with brutal intensity, creating a sonic tapestry that feels both ancient and refreshingly modern. Tracks like "Sine Qua Non" and "Of Feathers and Flames" demonstrate the band's ability to balance crushing riffs with intricate melodic elements, while the haunting "Lamp of Invisible Lights" serves as a perfect centerpiece that highlights their compositional maturity.
The production on "Sovereigns" strikes an ideal balance between clarity and raw power, allowing every instrument to breathe while maintaining the crushing weight that black metal demands. Enthroned's trademark blend of occult atmospherics and technical proficiency shines throughout, particularly on epic tracks like "Of Shrines and Sovereigns" and the closing ritual "Nerxiarxin Mahathallah". This is black metal that respects tradition while pushing boundaries, creating an album that feels both timeless and urgently contemporary.
