Background information about 'Devilry'
Funeral Mist have never been a band for the faint of heart. "Devilry", originally unleashed in 2004 and now reissued through Norma Evangelium Diaboli, remains one of the most uncompromising statements in Swedish black metal. From the very first seconds of "The Devil's Emissary", the listener is dragged into a vortex of razor-sharp riffs, frantic drumming, and vocalist Arioch's utterly possessed delivery. This is black metal at its most raw, ritualistic, and relentless — a howling storm from the depths.
The album blends the band's early demo material with newer recordings, creating a cohesive yet varied listening experience. Tracks like "Bringer Of Terror" and "The God Supreme" showcase the signature Funeral Mist sound: chaotic yet controlled, blasphemous yet strangely majestic. The inclusion of the "Havoc Demo II" tracks from 1996 adds historical weight, offering a glimpse into the band's formative years. "Realm Of Shades" and "Hellspell" carry that primitive, lo-fi energy that defined the early Swedish scene. "Devilry" is not an easy listen — it demands surrender.
