TAAKE · En Skog Av Nidstang | CD

Jewelcase CD with 12 pages booklet.

Background information about 'En Skog Av Nidstang'

After more than three decades in the game, Taake still refuses to play by anyone's rules but their own, and "En Skog av Nidstang" is the kind of statement that reminds you exactly why this Norwegian entity remains untouchable. This is the ninth full-length from the ever-enigmatic Hoest, and it arrives with the kind of quiet, moss-covered confidence that only comes from years of total artistic independence. Written in increasing isolation, detached from trends and largely removed from the influence of other music, these four expansive compositions feel like they were carved straight out of the Norwegian wilderness itself.

Recorded south of Bergen, in the forested landscapes around the island of Borgøy - the very surroundings immortalized by the ill-fated painter Lars Hertervig - the album trades studio excess for raw intuition. And it shows. Reckless thrashing riffs collide with brooding gloom, chilling melodies surface from violent intensity, and moments of desolate reflection give way to untamed aggression. It flows naturally from the mindset behind 2023's acclaimed "Et Hav av Avstand", yet pushes even further into the cold, uncompromising territory that only Taake can inhabit. After 33 years, this is proof that the fire still burns as fiercely as ever - vital, distinctive, and utterly relevant.
