Background information about 'En Skog Av Nidstang'
Norwegian black metal's most stubborn individualist is back, and Taake proves once again why the underground keeps bowing to his uncompromising vision. "En Skog av Nidstang" marks the ninth full-length from mastermind Hoest, and it arrives as a genuine statement of intent after years of increasing isolation from trends and contemporary noise. The result? Four expansive, sprawling compositions that feel less like songs and more like journeys through moss-covered woodland and bitter Nordic winds.
Recorded in the forests south of Bergen, surrounded by the very landscapes that haunted painter Lars Hertervig, this album breathes a rawness that modern studios simply cannot fake. Hoest leaned on intuition rather than technology, and you can hear it in every reckless thrash riff that collides with brooding gloom, every chilling melody that cuts through violent intensity. It picks up naturally where 2023's acclaimed "Et Hav av Avstand" left off, but digs even deeper into that desolate, untamed core. After 33 years, Taake remains as vital, as distinctive and as gloriously unrepentant as ever. This is black metal that refuses to compromise, and honestly, we wouldn't want it any other way.
For fans of: Darkthrone, Immortal, Gorgoroth, Carpathian Forest
