Background information about 'En Skog Av Nidstang'
Over three decades into a career that has always marched to its own drum, Taake proves on "En Skog av Nidstang" that stubborn independence still breeds greatness. Songwriter Hoest has spent recent years drifting further and further away from the noise of the scene, and that isolation has sharpened his vision into something dangerously focused. The result is the ninth full-length from the Norwegian black metal institution, a record built on four sprawling compositions that flow with the same restless, intuitive energy that made 2023's "Et Hav av Avstand" such a triumph.
Recorded south of Bergen, deep in the moss-draped forests around the island of Borgøy, the album captures a band operating on pure instinct. No studio trickery, no excess — just intuition, confinement and a master's command of the rudimentary tools of the trade. And it sounds unmistakably like Taake. Reckless thrashing riffs crash against brooding gloom, chilling melodies surface from violent intensity, and moments of desolate reflection collapse into untamed aggression. It is cold, it is unforgiving, and it is utterly alive. After 33 years, Taake remains as vital, distinctive and relevant as ever, and this record is the proof.
