There are albums that carry a curse. Impending Doom's debut full-length Caedes Sacrilegae, originally unleashed in 1997, is one of them. The recording never sounded the way the Thuringian band intended - technical mishaps and unfortunate circumstances buried its true face under layers of compromised sound. Almost three decades later, Darkness Shall Rise Productions has done what needed to be done: dig up the rough mixes and let the album finally breathe.

And holy hell, does it roar. Clocking in at nearly an hour, this is German metal at its most ambitious and melodious. The band, active from 1993 under various monikers before settling on Impending Doom in 1995, crafted a sound that blended sweeping, moody keyboards with razor-sharp heavy metal riffing. Tracks like Aeon Of Dreams and By My Blood Of The Night hit with a theatrical grandeur that recalls early Cradle Of Filth or Gehenna, yet there's a distinctly Teutonic edge that keeps things grounded in pure, unapologetic metal territory.

The rough mix treatment is a revelation. Remastered and restored by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony in March 2026, these versions strip away the murk and reveal what the band originally heard in their heads. The keyboards still swirl with gothic melancholy, the guitars bite harder, and the whole thing feels alive in a way the original release never quite managed.

This edition comes packed with previously unseen photos and a new interview featuring all band members. Four of the ten tracks reimagine material from the pre-Impending Doom days of Messias Abaddon and Pagan Fires, while the rest - including the bonus outtake Hellhammer and a cover of Dethroned Emperor - showcase a band operating at full creative throttle.
