Background information about 'Danzig IV'

By the time Danzig rolled around to their fourth full-length, Glenn Danzig had already built a legacy most songwriters would kill for — first with the Misfits, then Samhain, and now with a band bearing his own name that had turned gothic-tinged heavy blues into something genuinely menacing. "IV" is the sound of a man who knows exactly what he wants and refuses to compromise: thick, downtuned riffs, a rhythm section that locks in like a vice, and that unmistakable baritone croon hovering somewhere between a preacher and a predator.

What makes "IV" such a rewarding listen is how confidently it swings between moods. "Brand New God" opens the record with a swaggering groove that could fill an arena, while "Little Whip" slithers along on a nasty, hypnotic riff. Then there's "Cantspeak", a brooding, almost hypnotic piece that shows off the band's knack for restraint — they know when to hold back and let the tension do the work. "Going Down To Die" and "Until You Call On The Dark" bring the doom-laden drama, and "Son Of The Morning Star" closes the journey with a slow-burning heaviness that lingers long after the last note fades.

The production is big and warm without ever feeling slick, letting the guitars breathe and the low end rumble. It's a record that rewards repeated spins — the kind of album you put on late at night when you want something with teeth. For anyone who loves heavy music with a dark, bluesy heart and a frontman who owns every second of it, this one is essential.
