Background information about 'Dead Space Enigma'
When extreme metal's stars align, you get something like Void Sector Zero. The lineup alone should make any tech-death devotee sit up straight: guitarist Christian Muenzner, vocalist and bassist Alex Webber, and drummer Gabe Seeber, three players whose paths first crossed in Obscura during the world tour for "A Valediction". Four years of incubation later, they've delivered "Dead Space Enigma", and it lands like a meteor strike.
This is progressive thrash metal with its eyes fixed on the outer rim. Lead single "Vortex Divinium" whirls at hyper speed through the warped mind of Bob Lazar, all gravity-defying bass runs and a solo that welds '70s prog rock to jazz fusion. Elsewhere, the twisted time signatures of "Extraterrestrial Disassembly" unravel into a DMT trip gone horribly wrong, while "Ammutseba" bangs heads in honor of a great Lovecraftian deity and boasts a chorus with genuine all-consuming power. The band clearly grew up on late-'80s tech-thrash and early-'90s technical death metal, but they never sound like a museum piece. Cosmic sprinkles of hard rock and trad metal keep the whole thing fresh, fun and genuinely frightening. Timon Kokott's artwork seals the deal.
For fans of: Coroner, Revocation, Sadus.
