Background information about 'Mad Butcher / Live Ruins'
When it comes to German thrash metal legends, Destruction stands as one of the unholy trinity alongside Kreator and Sodom. This 2025 reissue brings together the band's iconic "Mad Butcher" EP from 1987 with explosive live material from their legendary Dynamo performances. The studio tracks showcase Destruction at their most ferocious, with Schmier's distinctive vocals cutting through the relentless thrash assault like a blade through bone. "Mad Butcher" remains one of their most beloved anthems, while tracks like "The Damned" and "Reject Emotions" demonstrate the band's ability to craft memorable hooks within their chaotic sonic maelstrom.
The live portion captures the raw energy that made Destruction such a force in the underground metal scene. Recorded at the famous Dynamo festival, these performances of classics like "Bestial Invasion" and "Unconscious Ruins" crackle with the electricity of a band in their prime. The sound quality perfectly preserves that authentic 80s thrash atmosphere - you can practically smell the sweat and beer from the pit. This collection serves as both a perfect entry point for newcomers and essential listening for longtime devotees who want to relive the glory days of German thrash metal.
For fans of: Kreator, Sodom, Tankard and Exumer
