Background information about 'Spreading The Disease'
Anthrax's second studio album "Spreading The Disease" stands as a pivotal moment in thrash metal history, capturing the band at their most ferocious and focused. Released in 1985, this album showcased the New York quintet's ability to blend crushing riffs with memorable hooks, creating anthems that would define the genre for decades to come. Tracks like "Madhouse" and "Armed And Dangerous" demonstrate the band's knack for crafting songs that are both brutally heavy and surprisingly catchy, while "A.I.R." opens the record with an explosive statement of intent that leaves no doubt about Anthrax's commitment to sonic destruction.
The album's production captures the raw energy of the band's live performances while maintaining enough clarity to highlight the intricate interplay between Scott Ian's razor-sharp rhythm guitar and Dan Spitz's melodic lead work. Joey Belladonna's distinctive vocals soar above the chaos, bringing a unique melodic sensibility that set Anthrax apart from their thrash contemporaries. Songs like "The Enemy" and "Lone Justice" showcase the band's ability to balance aggression with accessibility, creating music that appeals to both underground metal purists and mainstream rock fans.
