From the opening ceremonial drone of "Black Mass" to the hypnotic groove of "Venus In Furs", this album showcases the band at their most focused and menacing. The production is thick as molasses, with Jus Oborn's guitar tone cutting through the mix like a rusty blade while his vocals drip with malevolent intent.

The album's second half maintains the relentless assault with standout tracks like "Satyr IX" and the aptly named "Crypt Of Drugula", which closes the album with nearly nine minutes of crushing riffs and psychedelic doom atmospherics. Electric Wizard has always been masters of creating music that sounds like it was recorded in some forgotten dungeon, and "Black Masses" continues this tradition while pushing their sound into even darker territories. The interplay between crushing heaviness and hypnotic repetition creates an almost trance-like state that's both punishing and oddly meditative.
