VOID SECTOR ZERO · Dead Space Enigma | DIGIPAK CD

CD in digipak with 16-page booklet.

Background information about 'Dead Space Enigma'

Sometimes the metal universe lines up its planets just right. Void Sector Zero is what happens when it does: guitarist Christian Muenzner, vocalist and bassist Alex Webber and drummer Gabe Seeber first locked horns four years ago while touring the world with Obscura, and the chemistry they struck up back then has been quietly mutating ever since. On "Dead Space Enigma", that chemistry finally detonates. This is progressive thrash metal with its eyes on the stars and its boots planted firmly in the late '80s tech-thrash school — think sharp, surgical riffing, bass lines that defy gravity and solos that wander off into '70s prog and jazz fusion territory without ever losing the plot.

Lead single "Vortex Divinium" is the perfect entry point: a hyper-speed whirl through the warped mind of Bob Lazar, all dizzying fretwork and whiplash dynamics. But the record refuses to sit still. "Extraterrestrial Disassembly" twists its time signatures into a DMT trip gone gloriously wrong, while "Ammutseba" bows to a Lovecraftian deity and then floors you with a chorus built for arenas. There are cosmic sprinkles of hard rock and trad metal scattered throughout, and the whole thing is wrapped in artwork by Timon Kokott that suits the alien atmosphere perfectly. It's fresh, it's fun, it's genuinely frightening in places — and it announces a new force in extreme metal with a bang.
