Background information about 'Palace For The People'
There is a moment on "Palace For The People" where the guitars stop circling and everything just opens up — and you can practically hear a whole arena exhale. Greta Van Fleet have never been shy about reaching for the big gesture, and here they grab it with both hands, stacking harmony on harmony until the choruses feel like they might lift the roof clean off. Josh Kiszka's voice still cuts through the mix like a flare in the dark, but there is more grit in the grain this time, more weariness underneath the wail, and it suits them.
What makes this record such a ride is the tension between the thunder and the tenderness. The rhythm section locks in tight and lets the guitars wander off into long, glowing passages, and just when you think they have settled into a groove, a piano or a stray organ line drifts in and changes the whole weather of the song. It is classic rock with a restless streak, the kind of thing that sounds enormous in headphones and even bigger on a turntable, where the warm crackle of the pressing adds a little dust to the drama.
The Oracle variant is a beauty to hold, and the double vinyl spread gives these songs the room they deserve. Cue it up, turn it up, and let it roll.
